Law enforcement work to assist during snowy conditions last week

Law enforcement were busy last week helping motorists during the snow.
Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said there were multiple vehicles in Chase County go into the ditches due to poor visibility.
“There was one accident involving two semis,” he added. “It wasn’t anything serious, though.”
Chase County Schools canceled classes and activities last Tuesday, as well as Wednesday. Weather and roads improved Wednesday, but school was only scheduled for a half day due to Thanksgiving break.
Nebraska State Patrol troopers were also busy, assisting 400 motorists during the snowy holiday week.
Troopers worked overtime, responding to multiple winter storms across the state and assisting more than 400 motorists in need of help from last Wednesday through Sunday.
“Two major snow events that covered much of Nebraska made Thanksgiving travel difficult,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.
“We’d like to thank the vast majority of drivers who heeded the advice of NSP and NDOT. Adjusting travel plans to avoid the worst conditions undoubtedly prevented dangerous situations,” he said.
Troopers performed 407 motorist assists, responded to 48 crashes and assisted other agencies with 78 events from last Wednesday through Sunday.
“As we move through the winter months, drivers should always check 511 before traveling,” Bolduc said.
“Our partners at the Department of Transportation deserve tremendous credit for their work last weekend to get Nebraska moving again during back-to-back winter storms,” he said.
