Hill’s Family Foods sustains damage from vehicle accident

Last Wednesday, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Chase County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about an accident with injuries at Hill’s Family Foods at 131 E. 5th St.
Sgt. Justin Mueller responded to the accident.
A 2005 Buick LeSabre, driven by 78-year-old Fred Krausnick of rural Wauneta, impacted the front door and window area of the store.
Two female patrons and a male employee were struck while walking out the door.
One of the customers was transported by EMS to Chase County Community Hospital while the other was released with no injuries.
The male employee was taken to the hospital by private vehicle after the accident, said Sgt. Mueller.
The injuries suffered by both parties were non-life-threatening, he added.
After reviewing the security camera footage of the accident, it appears that the driver thought his foot was on the brake but was on the gas pedal. When pushed, the car  sped forward causing the accident, said Sgt. Mueller.
Sheriff Kevin Mueller said the accident is still under investigation.
“We are still waiting on an estimate for the damage total on the building,” he added.
Dirk Hill, owner of Hill’s Family Foods, was at home at the time of the accident.
After receiving a call, Hill said he grabbed his tools and headed to town to help clean up and make the building secure.
“My main concern was that everybody was OK with no serious injuries—they were being taken care of,” Hill said.
