Westside Church of Christ welcomes new preacher

A young preacher and his family from Tennessee have joined the community.
Wesley Wynne, his wife Heather and four-year-old daughter Addison arrived on Saturday, Nov. 9, and he filled the pulpit at Westside Church of Christ on Sunday morning.
“I think things went pretty well,” Wynne said.
In the short time they have been here, they have formed a strong opinion of their new home.
“We are very excited to be here,” he said. “We really like the town. We are impressed with how nice it is and how friendly the people are.”
The Wynnes moved here from Middleton, Tennessee, a farming community of around 650 people.
“We grew up around farming so we feel right at home here,” he said.
Wynne said he enjoys riding horses and hunting. But his main hobby is making Plains Indian replicas.
He likes working with leather, but he particularly likes making bows and arrows, he said.
Heather is a registered radiologic technologist (RT), but she doesn’t want to work outside of the home at the present time, she said.
“I want to stay home with Addison, and I will be teaching Sunday school and a bible study as well,” she added.
She said she also plans to continue her home business selling Scentsy products.
“People have been so friendly here. It’s a nice town, and I’m trying to learn my way around,” said Heather.
Wynne’s plan for the church  is to first be an encouragement to the congregation, he said.
“I want to help the church reach out and be a positive presence in the community by becoming known for good works and teaching the gospel,” Wynne said.
When the Wynnes arrived Saturday, they were greeted with sunshine and fair weather.
Sunday brought bitter cold and a dusting of snow.
“In Tennessee, this was about the most snow we would usually see,” he said. “This amount of snow could close things down.”
Another thing he said he is trying to get used to is how people relate distance.
“Back home, everyone tells distance in time rather than miles. Instead of saying how many miles it is to Memphis, we say how long it takes to get there,” he smiled.
When people tell him how many miles it is to somewhere here, he said he has to take a few moments to figure out how long it would take to travel that distance.
“But I’ll get used to it. We’re just glad to be here and become a part of this community,” he said.
Wynne said if anyone has any questions or would just like to talk, they can call his cell at 731-439-7321 or the church at 308-882-5623.
