New contests added to Smokin’ lineup

Two new contests have been added to the schedule for this year’s Smokin’ on Broadway.
Smokin’ on Broadway will take place on June 22 at the city office parking lot/grassy area at 7th and Broadway. Early events start at 7:30 a.m.
The first new contest is a salsa making contest. Wine Glass Ranch is the sponsor for that contest.
All salsas must be homemade and made with fresh ingredients. They’ll be judged on appearance, aroma, taste and texture.
All entries must be pre-registered by June 19 by calling or texting Logan Pribbeno at (308) 883-7770.
Contestants need to provide a minimum of one pint of salsa, which must be turned in by 12 noon in the city gym hallway.
Judging will take place at 1:30 p.m., with winners announced at 5 p.m. Judges will be employees and friends of Wine Glass Ranch.
There is no entry fee for the salsa contest. Prizes will be in the form of Chamber Bucks.
First place will receive $50, second will receive $25 and third will receive $15.
There will also be a People’s Choice Award. “The prize will be a surprise,” Pribbeno said.
At 2:45 p.m., Super Foods will be sponsoring a hot dog eating contest.
There will be an entry fee of $5, and the first place prize is $100.
Entries will be limited to the first 20 contestants.
Contestants must be 16 years of age or older.
Entry forms for the hot dog eating contest are available at the Smokin’ on Broadway website at smokinonbroadway.com.
