Furnace believed to have set off carbon monoxide detectors

The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) and Imperial EMS responded to a rural Chase County home Sunday at 4:40 p.m. after carbon monoxide (CM) detectors went off.
Raymond and Burneta Greeley, who live about 14 miles northeast of Imperial, told IVFD officers their detectors went off that morning, and at first they believed it might be due to the batteries.
They replaced the batteries, but the alarm went off again, said IVFD First Asst. Chief Brad Wheeler.
That prompted the couple to call in and report it, Wheeler said.
After some investigation, Wheeler said it appeared the home’s furnace was likely the issue. Personnel with Black Hills Energy were notified and arrived on scene later that evening, he said.
EMTs examined the couple on scene and they were fine, he said.
