Chase County Attorney Arlan Wine is hoping residents of Dundy County remember his name next week when they vote in the General Election.
Wine is running as a write-in candidate for Dundy County Attorney. Incumbent Gary F. Burke is seeking reelection.
Wine, who’s served as Chase County Attorney for 20 years and was first elected in 2002, sought reelection in Chase County this year. He was defeated by Joel Burke of Imperial in the May Primary in the Republican runoff.
Wine said he’s heard some voters in Dundy County say they would like a choice in their vote for County Attorney, so he decided to make an effort.
“Being a write-in candidate is an uphill battle, but I felt there was a chance so I’m giving it a shot,” he said Tuesday.
There will be a space on the ballot  for write-ins in the County Attorney race. Voters not only must write in his name, but also check the box next to it, he noted.
He’s been campaigning in Dundy County, he said, attending meetings and visiting with people. He said he has road signs up, is running ads and has flyers and brochures printed to boost his write-in campaign.
Wine lives in Wauneta and said, if elected, he would keep his residence there. He noted state statutes allow a candidate to be elected County Attorney if he/she lives in that county or one adjacent to it. Chase County is next door to Dundy.
Wine’s time as Chase County Attorney will end in early 2023.
In addition to that position, Wine also prosecutes city ordinance violations for the city of Imperial, and has a private law practice that primarily handles wills, probates, real estate contracts/deeds and some bankruptcies.
