Wauneta-Palisade Schools held regular meeting

The Wauneta-Palisade Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2023, in the Central Office in Wauneta Attendance Center in Wauneta, Nebraska. At roll call President Sandman acknowledged present Board Members Hondo Fanning, John Jutten, Laurie Maris, Aaron McKinney, Allison Sandman and Mary Wheeler.
First noted item was the building update where Superintendent Randy Geier shared that the intersection is under construction, and the 2nd floor has a delay and will be updated at the OAC meeting upcoming.
The V1 Action Items addressed were:
V1.1. Approval and Signing of August Meeting Minutes. The 8/14/23 regular meeting minutes passed with a motion by Laurie Maris and a second by John Jutten. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.2. Approval of District Expenditures and Budget Reports. To accept the monthly budget reports as presented and approve the district expenditures of Payroll: $293,198.86; GF Accounts Payable: $76,046.97; BF Accounts Payable: $783, 856.08; (includes BD #7 pay app) for a total of $1,153,101.91 passed with a motion by Hondo Fanning and a second by Laurie Maris. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.3. Approve BD Pay Application #7. To approve pay application #7 to BD Construction for $783, 856.08 passed with a motion by Allison Sandman and a second by Aaron McKinney. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.4. Approve 1% Allowable Growth. To approve 1% allowable growth for 2023-2024 school budget passed with a motion by Laurie Maris and a second by Aaron McKinney. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.5. Approval of 2023-2024 Budget of Expenditures. To approve the 2023-2024 District Budget of Expenditures of $4,053, 596.00 (including GF $3,296,495.00, BF $623,495.00 and QCPUF $133,606.00) passed with a motion by Laurie Maris and a second by John Jutten. The yey approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.6. Approve Resolution to set 2023-2024 Final Tax Request. To approve the resolution to set the 2023-2024 final tax request of $.910198 (including GF .740198, BF .14 and QCPUF .03) passed with a motion by Hondo Fanning and a second by Aaron McKinney. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.7. Approve Principal Contract. To approve 2023-2024 principal contract for Joseph Frecks $98,000 passed with a motion by Laurie Maris and a second by Marty Wheeler. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.8. Appoint Randy Geier as the fiscal agent 2023-2024 fund for state and federal funds passed with a motion by Hondo Fanning and a second by Aaron McKinney. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
V1.9. Approve North Star Negotiations. To approve North Star Negotiations software for certified staff negotiations passed with a motion by John Jutten and a second by Marty Wheeler. The yea approval by the other members was unanimous.
There was a Superintendent Report given by Randy Geier. He shared that he has been working on the 2023-2024 budget, the OAC meeting was Wednesday, 9/20/23, ESU 15 superintendents meeting Thursday, 9/21/23. Last Thursday he attended NSAA meeting as representative for District 5. Geier will have a second conference meeting next Wednesday.
At the Principal’s Report Mr. Frecks reported the school is doing well. Also, new staff members are fitting in well also, he said. Ms. Ballon is waiting for tax exemption from WP schools to finalize her visa documents. Fall NSCAS/MAP testing begins this week. Eight special ed students attended the HS rodeo in North Platte. Mr. Frecks shared the art and science of teaching with Marzanno. Angie Dickey (ESU 15 staff developer) will be meeting with Frecks this week. Activities update: JH VB vs Southwest was postposted.
Sandman shared that ESU 15 met on 9//12/23 to set the budget and tax request of $.014708 for 2023-2024.
The NASB Area Membership meeting was 8/29. Laurie and Allison attended. The NASB Convention is 11/15-11/17 in Omaha with an open registration.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2023 at 6:30 PM MT/7:30 PM CT in Palisade.
