Wauneta blood drive Saturday

Red Cross organizers are looking for blood donors for their June 1 drive in Wauneta.
With a goal of 33 units, Cathy Carman and Monica McKinney are encouraging interested donors to sign up at redcrossblood.org or call McKinney at 402-507-1995.
“Every single donation counts and can help three people,” Carman said.
Donors will receive a free t-shirt as a little extra incentive for taking the time to donate around Memorial Day.
The blood drive will run from noon to 6 p.m. MT at the Wauneta Community Building.
Carman said there are shortages in all blood types, but the O blood types are especially needed.
Antibody testing has been extended until July 31 for anyone interested.
The Red Cross website will also provide eligibility information and the consent form needed for young people.
Carman said she encourages students to come in and donate.
Power Reds, type O, A negative or B negative donors who give just red cells, are also encouraged to donate.
The Red Cross is following CDC guidelines, but a new directive allows fully vaccinated people to not wear a mask when they come in to donate. People who haven’t been vaccinated will still need to wear a mask.
Carman, a Red Cross rep for southwest Nebraska, will be passing her Wauneta duties on to McKinney.
Carman said she’d been looking for someone to step up and is glad McKinney is willing to lead the Wauneta drives.
