Vision of Trees takes on ‘Winter Splendor’ theme

Champion will be the destination the first weekend in December once again as the community hosts the 17th annual Vision of Trees.
Over the two days, Dec. 3-4, activity will center around a gym full of decorated Christmas trees, complemented by many other events and food over the weekend.
“Winter Splendor” is this year’s theme, said Samie Johnson of the planning committee.
Events on Dec. 3 are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and include a potato bake luncheon at $5 per person. Santa will visit Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with gift bags for the youngsters. Letters can be written to Santa both days.
Sunday activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That day, a homemade soup lunch will be served, also at $5 per person.
Both days will feature free cookies and live music.
Tickets for raffle items, including a quilt and more, will be on sale both days, and visitors can bid on the silent auction items, as well. Craft items, table decorations, baked goods and wreaths will be among the silent auction items.
Drawings start at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, and winners need not be present, Johnson said.
Those who want to decorate  a themed tree for the event can call Jessie Schmidt at 308-882-2995. There are some trees available to use for decorating, Johnson noted. Those interested can contact Schmidt.
Anyone wanting to donate an item can call Emma Jenkins at 308-883-1460.
