A 32-year-old man with a Wauneta address is in the Lincoln County Jail in North Platte after his arrest early Tuesday morning.
Imperial Police Chief Ryan Wisnieski was alerted at 4:25 a.m. by Chase County Dispatch that motion detectors were picking up activity at the Imperial Bomgaars store at the Highways 6/61 intersection.
Motion detectors at the front entrance and in the apparel section were registering activity, Wisnieski said.
Upon arriving, he found the front door entrance window broken, apparently by a cinder block that was amid the broken glass on the ground, he said.
Inside, he located Boone Huff, 32, who was eating candy. He was arrested with no issues, Wisnieski said.
Sgt. Chad Ostmeyer was also on scene, inspecting the store to determine no one else was in the building.
Huff was transported to the Chase County Jail, where he was booked for burglary and criminal mischief, the chief said. He was later transported to North Platte by a sheriff’s deputy.
However, that wasn’t the end of the incident.
About 7:20 a.m., Wisnieski was notified that someone had taken a tractor out of a storage shed at Prairie States Communications at 60 No. Highway 61, just across the highway from Bomgaars.
It was apparent the tractor was driven around in the parking lot, he said.
Co-owner Rick Elliott told law enforcement there was no damage to their building or tractor. It was uncertain if the door was locked, Wisnieski said.
Prairie States has cameras installed on the property which picked up the activity and it was allegedly Huff who removed the tractor, according to Wisnieski’s report. There were also candy wrappers, the same found at Bomgaars, on the scene at Prairie States, he said.
Further charges of trespassing and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle will be added to Huff’s charges, Wisnieski said.
After Huff went through the booking process in Chase County, Sheriff Kevin Mueller said he was transferred to the jail in North Platte due to safety and security concerns. There is also medical staff on site there, he said.
    The incident remains under investigation.
