Smokin’ on Broadway is lookin’ good

Imperial’s big summer event returns June 26 after year’s absence due to COVID-19

The Imperial Chamber of Commerce is ready to present Smokin’ on Broadway ‘21 next  Saturday, June 26.
After calling off the event last summer due to COVID concerns, Smokin’ on Broadway is back this June.
The wood-fired smoked meat and baked bean entries are in, and no more registrations can be accepted, said contest coordinator Jack Schnieder.
The all-day Smokin’ on Broadway event will begin with a Paint Out at 9 a.m. and bike parade at 9:30 a.m.
The fun-filled day will wrap up with a three-performance free concert from 7 to 11 p.m. Concert-goers should bring their own chairs or blankets.
There will be a full schedule of activities throughout the day, the majority of which will be located at city square, between 7th and 8th Streets on Broadway.
There will be inflatables on site, pickle-ball open games, a hot wing contest, a magic show, taco and salsa-making contests, public sampling of salsa, a Nebraska historical presentation at the Imperial Theatre, the Thirsty Painter and a cornhole tournament.
There will be something for everybody, according to Schnieder.
“Judging for the BBQ contest will be at 3:30 p.m. with a  free public tasting at 4 p.m.,” he said.
“I would be there by 4 p.m. to get a taste before it’s gone,” he added.
Schnieder said up to 11 BBQ contestants are expected.
There will also be a free community BBQ meal at 6 p.m. sponsored by the Imperial Chamber of Commerce.

The schedule of events is also listed in an ad in this week’s issue on page 11.
