Six CCS students on annual FFVF trip

    On March 8, juniors Zach Herbert, Jaret Peterson, Tyler O’Neil, Brooke Schilke, Iris Robles and Tristan Nordhausen departed from Chase County schools to start their excursion to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.
    Traveling with them as sponsors were Imperial’s former mayor and wife, Dwight and Tracy Coleman.
    The group flew out of Denver March 8 and returned March 15.
    Chase County’s Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge organizes the event and awards two scholarships, paying for 80% of the trip for two students.
    The two students traveling on the scholarship were Brooke Schilke and Jaret Peterson.
    The remaining four students receive a 40% scholarships.
    The FFVF chapter fundraised to cover much of the expense for the trip.  
    Students interested in the trip go through the process of filling out an application and interview with community members.
    From there, members of the FFVF choose the six students to attend.
    On this year’s excursion, the group visited Valley Forge, Arlington Cemetery, the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the National Museum of Art.
    They also observed the following monuments by the Moonlight Tour in Washington, D.C.—Supreme Court, Capitol Hill, U.S. Capitol, Jefferson Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veteran Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, White House, Tidal Basin, FDR Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Library of Congress and the National World War II Memorial.
