Saturday’s fair parade takes on ‘No Restrictions’ theme

    Entries in Saturday’s Chase County Fair parade may have some fun with this year’s “No Restrictions” theme.
    That’s also the theme for the entire fair, which is now underway with five days of activity still on tap at the fairgrounds in Imperial.
    Chris Lee, who is chairing the parade for the Imperial  Chamber of Commerce, said he’s been receiving entries, but people can still enter up until parade time Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
    He said those who did not preregister can still participate in the parade.
    However, if an entry wants to be judged and compete for prize money in each division, they should be in line by 9 a.m., he said. See the attached map for lineup locations.
    “Our judges will be ready to go at 9 a.m.,” he said.
    Judging will be complete by 10 a.m., for a prompt 10:30 a.m. parade start in front of the Imperial Manor/Parkview Heights on Grant Street.
    The parade route then proceeds east on West 10th Street then turns south on Broadway, continuing to 3rd Street.
    Broadway will be closed down for the parade Saturday morning.
    Parade divisions include organizations, business/professional, religious, open class and equestrian.
    Lee said county and city law enforcement will lead the parade, followed by the VFW Color Guard, a Chase County Veterans Memorial entry, grand marshal McNair Agency and family and Imperial’s 2021 Citizens of the Year.
    A review stand will be set up on Broadway, between 5th and 6th Streets, where the announcer will relate a little bit about entries as they pass by.
    There is no entry fee, but participants will vie for a first and second in each division, and an additional grand prize.
    First place in each division will be awarded $50 in chamber bucks, with $25 to second place. Grand prize will win $75 in chamber bucks. The Chamber provides the prizes.
