Santa Saturday this weekend in Wauneta

Wauneta’s annual holiday tradition returns this Saturday when the Wauneta Chamber hosts Santa Saturday.
The day will begin with the Mercy Meal Christmas bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mercy Meal house.
At 10 a.m., the library will host Mrs. Claus Story Time, including cocoa and cookies.
The Senior Center will serve  the Chamber courtesy meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Diners can enjoy soup and chili while voting for their favorite decorated lamp post.
The Angel Tree will be at the Senior Center. Members of Wauneta’s United Methodist Church work with Wauneta-Palisade Schools to find children in need of extra Christmas cheer. Those needs are put on angel decorations, and area residents can stop and choose from them on Saturday.
If all the decorations are not chosen at the Senior Center, the tree will be moved to Sandhills State Bank. Gifts must be brought back to Sandhills State Bank by Dec. 20 and UMC members will deliver the packages.
UMC is also sponsoring an Angel Tree at Pioneer Credit Union in Palisade. Those gifts will also need to be returned by Dec. 20.
This year’s free movie at the Chateau Theater is “Prancer.” The movie will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Following the movie, families can see Santa Claus at the Main Street Christmas tree.
The UMC Women decided to hold their Quarter Store Dec. 11 and 18 so it wouldn’t interfere with Santa Saturday activities, planners report.
The Quarter Store will be open in the south room of the Senior Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on those days.
Shopping is limited to children only on Dec. 11 and open to anyone on Dec. 18. Wrapping will be available.
Betty Vette is overseeing the project and said donations of new or slightly used items are accepted, but asked that clothes and shoes not be donated.
