Sales tax first quarter receipts top $118,000

Imperial has received its sales tax receipts for the first quarter of 2022 and the months of January, February and March.
The NE Department of Revenue deposits monthly receipts in the city of Imperial account about two months after a given month concludes.
January was the best month for receipts, bringing in $42,069.38 for the opening month of the new year.
Receipts dropped the two months after that, with  $40,000.34 recorded for February and a lower $36,431.74 for March.
The quarter’s three-month total was $118,501.46, which is also lower than the first quarter of 2021 which recorded $127,318.82.
When the city receives its monthly receipts, the sales tax on vehicles is separated and placed in the street department. A total of $4,727.03 was received from vehicle taxes.
The rest is split 50/50 between the LB 840 economic development fund and the community development fund. The Imperial city council has final say for earmarking funds from both accounts.
The city’s 1% sales tax is added to the state’s 5.5% for a total of 6.5% on eligible purchases.
