Quilts, including the one pictured, will be displayed the next two Sundays at the Chase County Museum in Champion.

Quilts fill museum as ‘21 season opens

Quilts are being hung at the Chase County Museum in Champion for the annual Mother’s Day quilt show, which ushers in the museum’s summer season.
The museum opens this Sunday, Mother’s Day, from 1-4 p.m., with the show continuing the following Sunday, May 16.
Featured quilters this year are five women from Dundy County. According to DeVonna Haines, one of the quilters, the five aren’t actually a quilt guild, but a group of women who meet once a month to quilt together.
“We want to be free to meet if we want to,” she explained, rather than follow a formal meeting schedule.
The women will be showing at least 40 quilts. In addition, local quilters are invited to display their creations. Those wishing to participate should contact Terry Yost in Imperial at 970-630-9061.
The show is sponsored by the Crazy Quilt Guild of Chase County.
Programs are planned at the museum from 1 to 4 p.m. each Sunday from Mother’s Day through August. There is no charge for entry, and refreshments are served.
Charley Colton, president of the Chase County Historical Society, said they are finalizing Sunday programs for the rest of the season, and will be announcing it in a week or two.
