Program coming this month on human trafficking in state

The Imperial Rotary Club is sponsoring a presentation on Human Trafficking in Nebraska April 27, at 6 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall.
Nebraska State Patrol Trooper Timothy Flick will give a free informative public presentation on human trafficking and its effect on Nebraska, said Eric Exum, Imperial Rotary Club president.
“Trooper Flick travels around the state raising awareness through his presentations,” Exum said.
There will be a question/answer segment at the end.
“The Rotary members will be selling Human Trafficking Awareness T-shirts, and all the proceeds will be donated to local groups and organizations involved in preventing human trafficking,” he said.
Trafficking is a worldwide problem that affects Nebraska as well, Flick said.
Human trafficking amounts to “modern-day slavery” even though Americans may think it was abolished in their own land after the Civil War of 1861-65, he said.
“Interstate 80 is definitely bringing traffickers and their victims into the area,” Flick said.
