Paving tops city’s One and Six Year Street Plan

Two paving projects on streets in Imperial’s southeast area are priorities in the city’s One and Six Year Street Plan approved Monday night.
Luke Dutcher with Miller & Associates met with the Imperial city council online Monday, and reviewed the plan. One and Six Year Plans are required of cities in order to received Highway Allocation Funds from the state, he said.
One project on the city’s one-year plan includes paving, curb/gutter and storm sewer on East Second Street from Orsa to Highway 61. That section is now gravel-covered.
The other one-year project is concrete paving of Holland Street from Cape Street north to East 3rd Street, which also borders Schroeder Park on the east. The street is now part asphalt and part concrete.
Twelve other projects are on the six-year plan and include paving and drainage work. Among them are paving of Shorthorn and Longhorn Streets near the school.
No other suggestions for the plan were offered during the public hearing.
Other business
Another public hearing was conducted on zoning changes to the city’s plan. The changes gained earlier approval from the Planning Commission.
One change will allow hair salons and barbershops in residential areas after a conditional use permit (CUP) is received. Currently, salons and barbershops are strictly forbidden in residential zones.
Other changes set maximum sizes for attached and detached garages and garage setbacks.
Two Grasshopper mowers for the street and parks departments were purchased at a cost $18,517.25 each after trades. They are being purchased from Yost Farm Supply. The purchases were budgeted, said Public Works Supt. Pat Davison.
In other action, the council cancelled the Feb. 15 meeting due to President’s Day, and approved the fire department’s addition of Sam Haarberg.
Action on the Nutrien Second Subdivision plat and vacating a part of Birch Street near that property were again tabled as the council waits for signatures on a hold harmless agreement.
