New vicar begins year at Zion Lutheran Church

Zion Lutheran Church has a new vicar who began his year the end of July and will complete his stay next July.
Andrew Hill and his family are originally from Casper, Wyoming, but they have been living in Fort Wayne, Indiana while he attended the Concordia Theological Seminary.
Hill and his wife Sarah have three children, John, age 3 1/2 years, Daniel, almost two, and Lydia, age two months.
Previous to seminary, Hill received a Bachelor’s degree in science and Spanish linguistics from the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the same university.
Hill said, “My dad was a pastor. As long as I can remember, there has always been something in the back of my mind about ministry.”
He also knew that it was important to him to be married and have a family, he said.
“It wasn’t until I met Sarah in college, and we started having conversations about the belief in doing something important that I decided to go into ministry,” Hill said.
“He also has a deep love of Theology,” Sarah added.
Both Hills are very active and busy. He is a cyclist, and used to do mountain biking.
“I enjoy cycling, backpacking, camping and I play the cello,” Hill said.
He also said he likes to read and cook, especially grilling.
“He’s a really good cook,” Sarah said.
She said she also used to go mountain biking, “but now, with the kids, most of my time is taking care of them and the house. I do like taking walks, baking and I plan to get back into biking while here,” she added.
They both like gardening, too, she said.
“Nowadays, we do mostly ‘survival’,” Hill laughed.
“We are really excited to be in a small town. We enjoy it,” he said.
“There are so many trees in Indiana that it’s hard to see much above them. So we like being out in the open in the sunshine with nothing blocking our view—we can see the stars at night,” Sarah smiled.
After his year here, Hill will have one more year in the seminary.
