Masks no longer required at Imperial blood drives

The Red Cross community blood drive is scheduled for May 23 from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at the Nutrien Event Center at the Chase County Fairgrounds.
The goal for this drive is 50 units, said Emma Jenkins, blood drive leader.
The American Red Cross will be giving out exclusive 20-oz. aluminum water bottles and customizable sticker sets while supplies last for donors who give blood between May 20-31.
“Just one blood donation can help save more than one life. Your contribution to the national blood supply could make a huge difference in someone else’s life,” Red Cross officials said.
Donors are no longer required to wear a face mask as they donate, but can continue to do so if they wish.
    The Red Cross is adhering to more stringent face mask requirements per state and/or local guidance, or at the request of blood drive sponsors.
    Only donors feeling healthy and well should plan to donate, and appointments are strongly encouraged, according to the Red Cross.
Appointment scheduling
    Appointments to give blood can be made online at red crossblood.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
    To get a RapidPass on the day of a blood donation, donors should visit redcross blood.org/rapidpass, complete the questionnaire, then print  the RapidPass and bring it with them.
    The completed RapidPass form can be shown on a mobile device, as well, when they come to donate.
    Walk-ins are welcome.
    As always, donors should bring a picture I.D., and all donations are tested for COVID-19 antibodies.
    The results of the antibody test will be available by logging into your blood donor account or online seven to 10 days after your donation at redcrossblood.org.
    Donors may still give blood after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, but knowing the name of the vaccine manufacturer is critical in determining blood donation eligibility.
