The late Eugene Haarberg to be inducted into NRD Hall of Fame

The late Eugene Haarberg of Imperial was recognized by the Natural Resources Districts (NRD) for his contributions to the organization during Husker Harvest Days Sept. 15. He and three other individuals will be inducted into the NRD Hall of Fame Sept. 26-28, 2021.
Haarberg served on the Upper Republican NRD board of directors from 1972-2000.
He worked with the Nebraska Legislature to determine the role of NRDs in Nebraska. That included the Groundwater Management and Protection Act that gives NRDs the authority to regulate groundwater.
“Gene’s NRD career is unique and noteworthy, because he was a key participant in the most substantial NRD developments,” said Jasper Fanning, Upper Republican NRD general manager.
The announcement about Haarberg’s nomination was attended by his family.
