The stage was lit up with a beautiful Christmas scene as the background for various entertainment during Vision of Trees. Here, one of Phyllis Mock’s piano students is getting ready to play.

Large attendance at Vision of Trees

Last weekend saw what may have been one of the largest attendances at the Vision of Trees event at the Champion Community Center.
The room was aglow with Christmas lights providing a festive atmosphere for the 25 decorated Christmas trees that lined the walls.
For background ambience, Jan Clark played the piano throughout the two-day event, and Rainbow Promise students sang songs and entertained Saturday afternoon.
Santa also stopped in from the North Pole on Saturday afternoon to talk with the children, hear their requests  and hand out holiday gift bags.
Sunday afternoon, Phyllis Mock’s piano and guitar students performed some pieces for attendees.
Rhonda Smith, a member of the Champion Jr. Women’s Club, said the building was packed both days.
“We sold 150 baked potatoes on Saturday, and for the first time ever, we ran out of soup on Sunday,” Smith said.
Due to COVID, last year’s Vision of Trees was not held.
Raffle ticket winners were Abby Cyboron winning a handmade quilt; Teri Yost, handmade outdoor wooden furniture; Bill Brophy won a mounted photo picture of Champion Mill and lake; and Joan Wenzlick won the decorated Christmas tree from the Challenger’s 4-H Club.
The first place People’s Choice award for the best decorated Christmas tree display was given to father and daughter, Ed Cupp and Kelsey Steinkraus.
The deer in the display were all hunted by Cupp with each one having its own interesting story, said Arlys Cupp.
The second place People’s Choice winner went to Lana Stromberger, who designed an owl-themed Christmas tree.
“We appreciate the community’s support for this event,” said Smith.
Proceeds from the event go to area families for medical expenses and associated expenses, she said.
