Lambert, former school district named in lawsuit

Chase County Schools Supt. Adam Lambert, the former school district at which he was employed and another school employee there have been named in a federal complaint filed May 17 in U.S. District Court of Nebraska.
In the complaint, Alice Johnson, Norma LeRoy and two minor children allege Marvanne Logterman, an administrative assistant at Cody-Kilgore Unified School District, cut the children’s hair while checking for head lice.
Lambert was superintendent at Cody-Kilgore at the time of the alleged haircutting between Feb. 24 and March 6, 2020.
In the complaint, the plaintiffs say they are Rosebud Sioux Tribe members who practice traditional Lakota religious tenets.
Those include that hair be cut only under specific circumstances and under a parent’s supervision.
They claim they were not contacted about the alleged haircutting.
The plaintiffs are being represented by the ACLU of Nebraska.
Chuck Willbrandt with Knudsen, Berkheimer, Richardson & Endacott, LLP is representing the school district, Lambert and Logterman.
