Terry Yost, left, and Becky Spady examined several handmade quilts, one of which they believed was made using wool WWII uniforms. This quilt they’re holding had the date 1931 embroidered on it.

Labor Day Auction featuring more quality items

This year’s 42nd annual Labor Day Auction attracted just shy of 700 bidders, said Mark Fanning of Fanning Auction Service.
“I think it was one of our top auctions because everything sold well. I think that was because we decided not to take ‘junk’ items and stayed with good quality items instead,” Fanning said.
He said he received compliments from people attending the auction saying they thought it was a lot cleaner, and people like to buy quality merchandise.
In the past, they have accepted “leftover stuff” from garage sales, as an example, but they don’t do that anymore, said Fanning.
The auction had three rings going all day with nine auctioneers.
There were dealers from Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Iowa, Wyoming and Nebraska showing their merchandise, he said.
“The catering trucks had tremendous business this year,” Fanning said.
People could be seen enjoying the food while sitting at a variety of tables provided for the auction.
“It was not one of our larger crowds, but I think the heat cut down on attendance some. But the buyers were there, and the attendees were an outstanding crowd of good people,” Fanning said.
He wanted to thank the entire crew for their hard work, because without the crew, they couldn’t put on this auction.
“I want to thank our loyal customers as well as our new ones for attending the auction. We appreciate your business in the past and the future,” said Fanning.
