Imperial pool opening still up in air

    A lot of people are working to get the Imperial swimming pool open, but as of Wednesday morning a firm opening date could not be set.
    Pat Davison, the city’s Public Works Director, said work is continuing this week after a leak in the 12” drain pipe was discovered as they filled the pool June 1.
    After discovering where the leak was after digging up an area in the pool’s deepest section, the parts to repair it were ordered and arrived late Monday, he said.
    They were installed Tuesday, and new cement was being poured Wednesday.
    “The concrete has to set several days, probably until Monday or Tuesday,” he said.
    After that, the area torn up needs to be repainted, along with some touch-ups of other areas. The paint then must dry three to four days, but that’s dependent on the weather, he noted.
    “We just can’t say yet when the pool will open,” he said.
    Meanwhile, pool manager Alex Schilke and the lifeguards are organizing “Water Park in the Park” fun several days a week at the city’s Campbell Park.
    Several water activities, including a slip and slide and dunk tank, can help keep youths cool and provide some water fun until the pool opens, Schilke said.

Wauneta pool breaks pipe
    After opening June 1 the Wauneta had a broken pipe Sunday. Pool manager Hannah Nordhausen was hopeful repairs would be made Wednesday so the pool could be refilled and ready to open Friday. Updates are available on the Village of Wauneta Swimpool Facebook page.
