Future events planned for Enders Lake

A meeting was held last Wednesday to go over details of the Enders outdoor extravaganza event held at Ender’s Lake in mid-June.
The all-day event celebrated the 100th anniversary of Enders State Recreation Area.
Topics discussed at the meeting covered what was learned this year, what all worked well and what would be changed for future events, said Beau Licking, park superintendent for Enders Lake Recreation Area.
“The vendors who sat up their trucks had nothing but good comments on how well the event ran,” Licking said.
He added they were very successful in their own businesses, too.
“At final count, there were almost 2,000 people in attendance according to state park officials who were present during the event,” said Dayna Scherbarth, park employee and main coordinator for the event.
Funds raised at this year’s  5-K run went toward brain cancer research in honor of Wauneta native Stephanie Williams who now lives in Colorado, Scherbarth said.
“The Smoke-off was also a huge success,” she added.
“The event this summer was so successful that we are planning another Extravaganza Event next summer and will continue it as an annual event,” said Licking.
The date has been set for June 25, 2022.
“We are planning on having a lot of the same events including the truck and tractor show, the Smoke-off and the 5-K run. Funds from the 5-K next summer will be donated to the Gary Sinese Foundation in honor of southwest Nebraska soldiers, veterans and first responders,” said Scherbarth.
She didn’t know what the special entertainment would be next June, but she said they are hoping to book a well-known Country act.
“Our lead volunteers were so pleased with how everything turned out they are planning on helping again next year,” Scherbarth said.
There will be another community meeting in October, so watch for coming details, Licking said.
“We are looking for sponsors again for next year’s event. Anyone interesting in being a sponsor can call the Enders Lake office at 308-394-5118,” he added.
