Final SCORE Camp preparations gearing up

During the week of June 10th both local and non-local first-sixth graders will get the chance to participate in the last SCORE Camp. SCORE Camp was founded by Marla Smith and Sue Renken in 1989 and has left a legacy that has touched thousands of students and staff alike. This year’s theme, “Science Vibes”, is modeled after the groovy 70s era. Students will receive 21 hours of instruction and get numerous opportunities for hands-on learning.
Many locals will share their knowledge as instructors as well as a few instructors traveling from out of the area including John Collins, “The Paper Airplane Guy” and Aaron “Hutch” Hutchings, a survival instructor. Dr. Robert Diffendal, a geologist, will also be sharing his knowledge as he has done for every SCORE Camp since 1989. He has only missed two camps.
On Monday through Wednesday, first and second graders will experience sessions such as, “Get Your Spark On!”, “Rad Robots”, “Stellar Stars” and Funky Fossils. 3rd and 4th grader sessions will include “Love & Lava”, “Radical Rocks”,
Good Vibrations” and “Cool Camo.” Fifth and sixth graders will get their turn Wednesday through Friday and will participate in sessions such as, “Rock On”, “Jeepers Creepers” and “Let’s Hang On!”.
On Wednesday, June 12, there will be a hot dog feed beginning at 5 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. This is, in part, a thank-you to the many people who have made SCORE camp a possibility. After the meal, there will be several interactive exhibits. At 6:30, The Re”Vive”d Wacky Science Show will begin. Afterwards, Jon Gates “The Yo-Yo Legend” will show his stuff.
This week is looking to be a great time for both students and the community of Imperial.
