Final public meeting this month for possible City Square upgrade

A feasibility study is moving forward on a potential upgrade of City Square, with a public input meeting Nov. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Lied Imperial Public Library.
This meeting is being presented by the City of Imperial and Miller & Associates of Kearney.
The speaker will be Jennie Kozal, a Miller & Associates community planner.
The purpose of this meeting is to go over the survey results for the proposed Imperial City Square 2022 project and present conceptual designs that resulted from input.
“These surveys were collected at a previous public meeting and an online survey, generating 222 responses,” said Tyler Pribbeno, Imperial Community Development Director.
This will be the second and final public meeting to not only go over the survey results, but view three detailed design concepts for City Square, Kozal said.
“This meeting will be an opportunity for public input for the designs as well as submitting any further ideas,” she said.
A grant application for this current study phase was submitted, received and approved by the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund earlier this year.
“The goal of the upcoming meeting will be to welcome additional ideas and select one of the (design) concepts as a front runner for the Imperial City Square project,” said Kozal.
This meeting is to get the word out to the public and garner as much input as possible for moving forward to the next step, she said.
“We are working on providing a better space for the Farmer’s Market, concerts and a children’s play area, just to mention a few,” Pribbeno said.
Kozal said once a design plan has been set, the city will apply for another CCCFF grant for the potential construction.
Using input from the Nov. 16 meeting, the final presentation of a City Square design will be presented to the city council for approval after the first of the year, Kozal said.
Application will then be made for the construction grant, which like the study grant, requires a 50% local match.
