Farmers Market kicks off for summer; find it weekly at City Square

Gardeners are reporting some late ripening of produce, but the Imperial Farmers Market has kicked off for the summer.
Last Saturday marked the first day for Imperial’s weekly Farmers Market, when half a dozen sellers were on site at City Square. That’s about three weeks later than the opening weekend last year.
The Farmers Market will continue every Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. until fall.
Jan Graham, one of the informal Farmers Market committee members, said some of the produce sold last week included cucumbers, zucchini and cherry tomatoes.
Other sellers brought jams and jellies, meat, eggs and decorative plants including succulents. People or groups can also sell baked goods. A table selling bisgotti, an Italian cookie, was set up last week.

The space at City Square is provided by the city, but sellers need to bring their own tables and canopies if they choose.
“They just need to show up,” Graham said, who will get them registered that day.
“We encourage people to share what they have with other local people,” she said.
This is the third year the Market has been held at City Square. A number of years ago, the Imperial Chamber of Commerce sponsored a Farmers Market downtown.
Anyone with questions about selling or for other information can contact Graham at 308-883-1198.
