First place winners were the Soul Steppers of North Platte. Winning best overall dancer, standing center front, was 8-year-old Gabby Woodburn.

Dance Crew contest offers great entertainment for fair audience

Six teams competed in the Chase County Fair’s Dance Crew Contest, sponsored by the Color Box salon and owner Vanessa Terryberry,.         Competing teams came from North Platte, Perkins County, Imperial and St. Francis, Kansas.
The teams were made up of girls and boys, big and small, giving their best performances.
Taking first place was the Soul Steppers from North Platte’s Legacy Dance & Gymnastics studio. They were awarded a trophy and $450.
Second place went to the Beat Breakers also of Legacy in North Platte, winning a trophy and $350.
The Perkins County cheerleaders took third with a trophy and $250.
Gabby Woodburn, age 8, was chosen as best overall dancer winning $100, a T-shirt and a Granger Smith concert ticket.
Other teams in the competition were the Twister Mini-Cheer team, Imperial Girls of Summer and the Little Imperial Dribblers, each dribbling a basketball in the routine.
In-between competing teams, Terryberry held impromptu contests while the judges deliberated on each performance. Participants were awarded prizes.
One of those was a cartwheel contest for volunteers from the audience. Charley Colton gave it his best shot to enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
While the judges adjourned to make their final decisions, Anna Aragon, an eighth grader at Chase County Schools, entertained the crowd with a vocal solo.
