Commissioners sign papers on Solid Waste Agency dissolution

Chase County Commissioners Jacci Brown, Duane Dinnel and Dennis Kunnemann officially signed the City of Imperial’s contract to dissolve the Southwest Nebraska Solid Waste Agency at the Feb. 9 commissioners’ meeting.
After years of dissolution discussions between the city and county, the SWA board will meet one last time to pay the entity’s bills then officially dissolve the agreement between the city and county.
A public hearing was held concerning an extension of the conditional use permit for a Stromberger Farms feedlot.
Bart and Ryan Stromberger and Dean Settje with Settje Agri Services & Engineering attended the hearing, but no other members of the public were there.
The commissioners wanted to see a copy of the plan for the feedlot, but Strombergers said they didn’t want to invest in the new plan until they knew they had an extension.
After discussion, Settje will complete a new plan to be submitted for the March 9 commissioners meeting and the extension acted on at the March 23 meeting.
Settje said he didn’t want any gray area with the new plan, so it will be broken down into definitive phases that can easily identify the progress completed.
Highway superintendent Jeff Tidyman presented the one and six year road plans. Discussion included adding more millings to Avenue 331 south of Imperial, but roads supervisor Ted Brewer suggested putting millings on McCallum hill on Road 740 north of Wauneta because it washes out so badly. No decisions were made.
The group also discussed the unevenness of the new Imperial Beef road and requested Tidyman look for a solution.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. in the Chase County Courthouse.
