Commissioners approve roads department purchases

The Chase County Commissioners approved several large purchases during their Aug. 10 board meeting
The board approved the purchase of a 2021 John Deere excavator for $167,560. They also approved the purchase of a dump truck, but were informed the truck had already been sold.
Also approved was buying out the lease for a 8245 John Deer tractor for $87,000 and the purchase of underlay fabric to fix washouts for $16,700.
The commissioners approved selling top soil removed while pulling ditches for $10 a yard.
Road foreman Mark Balderston will continue to look for a dump truck and a packer for road work.
Andy Forney of D. A. Davidson & Co. provided information on bonding for the Wauneta and Champion road projects. Highway allocation funds will be used to pay for part of the projects. A 10 year, $2.5 million bond was discussed for the projects but not acted on.
The commissioners continued to debate how to provide access to Champion Lake.
Moving away from roads department discussion, the board directed the county attorney to foreclose on parcels of land belonging to Imperial Grain Inc, Ryan Starnes and Margaret Logan.
The next meeting of the commissioners will be Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 8 a.m. in the courthouse.
