CCS produces another winner in Nebraska State Song art contest

Elementary students at Chase County Schools seem to have a knack at producing first place artwork.
For a third straight year, a second grader at CCS has taken first place for that grade level in the Nebraska State Song Children’s Art Contest.
Juliette O’Neil was notified last month she was the 2022 first place winner in the contest challenging youths to draw a depiction from the state song, “Beautiful Nebraska.”
The second grader was honored at a recognition day in Seward on Sunday, when she was presented a certificate and medal from the GFWC Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Local sponsor for Juliette’s entry was the Champion Junior Woman’s Club.
Students in grades K-4 are invited each year to enter the state song art contest. Students are asked to create a picture of a Nebraska scene heard in the words of the Nebraska state song.
It is one of the many activities in Nebraska when Statehood Day is celebrated. The contest goal is to create more awareness of the state song, “Beautiful Nebraska,” said Betty Jean Kolterman, art contest chairman.
Last year’s second grade winner in this art contest was Keller Johnson, and the year before, Leo Bencomo took top honors. Kaden Dorn, now in seventh grade, is also a former first place winner, teacher Arlys Cupp said.
