CCS FFA members attend National FFA Convention

Nebraska FFA was well represented at the 96th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, November 1-4. Members qualified for the national convention by competing at the state level last spring with first place competitors advancing to the national level. Seventeen FFA members attended the convention from Chase County Schools. Of those, 15 members are pictured above. From left are Jason Nelson, Sean Heermann, Brooke Schilke, Jaxsen Villarreal, Westyn Mendenhall, Kathya Aragon, Kylee Wiest, Jasmine Johnson, Mason Tyerman, Jasmin Jenkins, Jecca Yaw, Myla Brown, Jayme Gittlein, Peyton Owens and Odessa Zadina. Three CCS students received awards at Nationals. Jaxsen Villarreal, bottom right, was awarded 2nd place in the nation in Division 1 (7th and 8th grade individual) for his Agriscience project—plant science. Lindsey Mendenhall and Morel Jurado, bottom left, both received their American Degree which is the highest degree you can receive in the FFA organization. All CCS FFA members enjoyed listening to motivational speakers, watching teams compete and participated in workshops. They also visited colleges and businesses at the Career Expo and toured Certor Sports, manufacturer of Schutt football helmets. Wrapping up their experience, the group toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a museum.
