Cases updated at Chase County Court hearings

    Three cases on the Chase County Court docket were before Judge Edward D. Steenburg Jan 11 with newly-elected County Attorney Joel Burke prosecuting.
    In a pretrial hearing, Keith D. Cranwell, who had been previously charged with Failure to Yield and Careless Driving resulting from a CCS bus accident Sept. 27, received a continuance to Feb. 9.
    In another pretrial hearing, Boone J. Huff, speaking with the judge telephonically from the Lincoln County Jail in North Platte, was read the charges against him—Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Trespassing, Shoplifting and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.  
    The charges resulted from an alleged Dec. 27 break-in at Bomgaars in Imperial. Huff stated he could not afford to post bond or hire legal counsel. Judge Steenburg advised Huff he was assigning attorney Leslie Nordhausen as an appointed representative for him. Huff’s hearing was then scheduled for Jan. 25.
    In a third case, Jose A. Garcia-Porras, who had been previously charged with two counts of 1st Degree Assault resulting from an alleged stabbing incident in Imperial Dec. 11, received a continuance to Jan. 25.
