Cars believed totaled in Broadway accident

Police Chief Ryan Wisnieski believes both cars involved in an accident Monday morning on north Broadway Street are totaled.
The accident shortly before 9 a.m. resulted in two crumpled vehicles, but no major injuries, after an eastbound car crossing Broadway failed to yield to a Colorado driver traveling north.
Chief Wisnieski said Jazzmyn Knehans of Imperial, 18, was driving a 2008 Ford Taurus SUV that was eastbound on 14th Street, crossing Broadway.
She failed to yield, the chief said, to the northbound 2015 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Dale Whittington, 58, of Fleming, Colorado.
Knehan’s vehicle ended up in the corner landscaping in Daryl and Julie Sharp’s yard. Some bricks were broken and antifreeze leaked out of her car there, Wisnieski said.
Whittington’s car was spun around 180 degrees after the collision and was facing south when it came to rest. Both of his driver’s side airbags deployed, Wisnieski said. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, he said.
Whittington was transported to Chase County Community Hospital by Imperial EMS, where he was treated and released. Knehans refused EMS transport, the chief said.
No tickets were issued at the scene, according to Wisnieski, but the accident remains under investigation.
The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
