VFW Auxiliary art contest winners in each of three grade categories hold their first place certificates. All three winners are sisters, from left, Piper, Milinda and Jaslene Barrera.

Barrera sisters place in VFW Auxiliary art contest

The VFW Post 4688 Auxiliary sponsored an art contest for students in grades 1-8 called “Illustrating America.”
There were three grade categories, and Bobbie Hust’s three daughters each placed first in a category on the local level.
The three artists are Piper Barrera, first grade; Milinda Barrera, fourth grade; and Jaslene Barrera, sixth grade—all receiving a $10 prize.
Sue Moore, president of the VFW Auxiliary, said all three girls then placed on the state level, as well, with Piper and Jaslene both placing first, and Milinda placing third.
“As first place winners at state, the two girls won a cash prize of $25 each,” Moore said.
All first place state winners are now being considered on the national level, she added.
“We won’t hear anything on winners just yet,” she said.
“This is our first time submitting entries in this contest, and we are very proud of the girls,” said Moore.
