Added money, 46 teams make for huge cornhole tournament
There were a lot of bags flying in the cornhole tournament at the Chase County Fair.
With 46 teams registered in the double-elimination tourney, coordinators Jeff Lempke and Aaron Troxell had their hands full for the Saturday afternoon event in the show arena.
Lempke said usually they field just over 30 teams for the tournament, but he thinks moving it to Saturday from Wednesday and added fair board money for prizes beefed up this year’s numbers.
Randy Roesener and Jerry Rowley, both of Imperial, reigned as champions and won $500 and a pair of cornhole champion T-shirts.
Here are the other top four place-winners:
2nd Joe Quintana and Lindsey White, $350
3rd Bo and April Farr, $200
4th Travis Wheeler and Kerry Shinn, $50
At previous fairs, there were horseshoe tournaments scheduled both Friday and Saturday afternoons, but those were combined this year on Friday, opening up the Saturday afternoon time slot.
Lempke said indications are the cornhole tournament will remain on the fair’s schedule for Saturday afternoon.
