Way honored for her part in Husker history

For some a trip to Lincoln to see the Nebraska volleyball team play would be the highlight of their year.
To be on the floor of the Devaney Center receiving a standing ovation is more than most could imagine.
Imperial’s Dianne Way and Grant’s Marcia Swan got to experience it first hand Saturday when they were honored by the university as members of the Huskers’ 1975 inaugural volleyball team. Nebraska is recognizing that team as part of its celebration of 50 years of Title IX.
All members of the team were supposed to be recognized Saturday, but the date was moved to October.
Way and Swan had conflicts with the new date and stuck with the original plan.
Way was one of several team members Nebraska had trouble tracking down. Although she and Swan aren’t close, Swan was able to get Way’s contact information to the university.
If things work out in Way’s schedule, she’d like to be back in Lincoln in October, not to be on the court, but to get to see her old teammates.
The weekend turned into a girls’ trip for Way. Her daughters Kim, Stephanie and Becky were there, as well as daughter-in-law Tiffany, Way’s sister and a variety of granddaughters. Boys were invited, too. Way’s two brothers and son-in-law also made the trip.
Way said getting to see her family was the best part of the weekend.
