Two busy weekends mark end of spring rodeo season

Several CCS students are winding down their spring rodeo season. The past couple of weekends were packed with rodeo events.
Atkinson
On Saturday, May 25 at the Atkinson Rodeo Grounds, CCS students spent the day partaking in several rodeo events. Alex Nelson and Wyatt Krausnick both came away with no time in tie down.
In team roping, Alex Nelson and his partner Felycia Kerkman came away with no time. Jason Nelson and Wyatt Krausnick also ended up with no time.
Kathya Aragon earned a time of 25.137 in pole bending. In goat tying, Abby Spicer had a time of 16.560 and she ended up with a time of 20.988 in barrels. Aragon ended with a time of 21.424 in barrels.
J. Nelson, A. Nelson and Krausnick also participated in trap shooting. Krausnick ended up with no score and A. Nelson earned 36 points. J. Nelson came away with 46 points, which earned him 1st place and a belt buckle.
Valentine
The next day at the Cherry County Fairgrounds, the CCS students did it all over again. A. Nelson and Krausnick both ended up with no time in tie down. J. Nelson and Krausnick no-timed in team roping while A. Nelson and his partner Felycia Kerkman ended up with a time of 34.880. Penalties affected a few of the runs resulting in added time and no time.
Aragon earned a time of 34.483 in pole bending including a 15 second penalty. She earned a time of 20.031 in barrels. In barrels, Spicer came away with a time of 20.169. She also participated in goat tying and ended up with a time of 11.870.
Panhandle
On Friday, May 31, the rodeo-ers headed to the Morrill County Fairgrounds in Bridgeport for the next event in the schedule. Krausnick came away with a time of 27.000 in tie down—his first successful run of the season—while A. Nelson had no time. A. Nelson and partner Felycia Kerkman and J. Nelson and Krausnick ended up with no time in team roping.
Kathya Aragon earned a time of 24.744 in pole bending and a time of 19.682 in barrels. Spicer had a time of 19.843 in barrels. Both girls had clean runs. In goat tying, Spicer had a time of 8.450 earning her 3rd place in the event.
Harrison
June 1st Sioux County Fairgrounds in Harrison hosted the next high school rodeo. A. Nelson and Krausnick ended their tie down runs with no time. In team roping, A. Nelson and partner Felycia Kerkman came away with a time of 27.050 and 9th place overall, while J. Nelson and Wyatt Krausnick had no time. Penalties, again, were a factor in several runs.
In pole bending, Aragon had no time but came away with a time of 19.371 in barrels. Spicer had a time of 19.568 in barrels and a time of 10.790 in goat tying.
Crawford
The finale to a couple of long weekends was an event in Crawford on Sunday, June 2nd at Old West Trails Rodeo Arena. J. Nelson placed 2nd in trap shooting with a score of 46/50 and Krausnick was close behind with a score of 45/50 and a 3rd place finish.
A. Nelson and Krausnick both ended with no time in tie down. J. Nelson and Krausnick and A. Nelson and his roping partner Felycia Kerkman all had no time in team roping.
In pole bending, Aragon had a time of 28.951 and a time of 19.404 in barrels. Spicer had no time in barrels and a time of 10.030 in goat tying.
State finals will be held June 12-15 and qualifications have not been announced as of yet.
