Bryn McNair lays in a reverse layup for two of her single game school record 42 points at Wray.

McNair sets CCS school record with 42 points

Coming off back-to-back losses, the Chase County girls’ basketball team had something to prove going into its Friday contest at Wray, Colorado.
CCS Head Coach Alex McNair said his team came out ready to go.
“I think the Ogallala game left a bad taste in their mouths,” McNair said.
McNair liked the Longhorns’ defensive effort in the first half at Wray.
CCS held Wray to three first quarter field goals and then two field goals in the second quarter.
The Longhorns went to the charity stripe often in the first half and made 10-16.
Bryn McNair carried the scoring load, totaling 22 points in the first half. Sophomores Peyton Owens, Landree McNair and Olivia Spady contributed first half points, as well as senior Joee Clevenger.
The game got interesting in the third quarter as Wray got hot from the floor and started cutting into Chase County’s 35-16 halftime lead. The Eagles hit three 3s and five two point buckets, one more two pointer than it had in the whole first half, over the first eight minutes of the second half. B. McNair continued her strong offensive effort, adding 10 points in the third quarter.
Holding a 47-37 advantage going into the fourth quarter, the Longhorns’ defense shone once again. CCS only gave up a two point field goal over the game’s final eight minutes.
    B. McNair continued to dominate offensively in the fourth quarter.
With another 10 points in the fourth, B. McNair finished the game with 42 points, a new CCS school record.
She also held the previous school record, 37, and McNair said she is creeping up on Mallie McNair’s career points record.
Overall, six Longhorns finished in the scoring column for the night, which Coach McNair said is always nice.
Spady scored nine points and went 4-4 from the free throw line.
    B. McNair also finished with eight offensive rebounds and 12 defensive rebounds.
CCS outscored Wray 40-16 in the paint and held a 12-4 advantage in second chance points.
