Longhorn girls basketball gets back in win column

The Lady Longhorns got back into the win column Thursday night when they traveled to Sutherland and sunk the Sailors 56-26.
Sutherland started the night with the lead, making the first bucket, but the Horns answered back with Kylee Wiest making  one of two free throws and back to back feild goals by Miranda Spady and Landree McNair.
The Longhorns never looked back and behind a pesky defense and running the floor, the lead continued to grow.
At the end of the first period, the Longhorns had stretched the lead to eight, 16-8.
The Horns shooting improved in the second quarter as they pulled away even farther, outscoring the Sailors by 15 and leading the game 35-12 at the half.
That allowed coach McNair to go to the bench in the second half and give more girls some valuable playing time.
The Horns outscored the Sailors in the second half, 21-14, to seal the win. The Longhorns had 11 different players in the scoring column and turned the points off of turnovers around this week, scoring 21 off the Sailors 29 turnovers, compared to the Sailors six points they scored off 10 turnovers by the Horns.
Olivia Spady lead all scoring for the night with 15. Landree McNair lead the rebounding with six, followed by Miranda Spady with 5 and Karlie Anderson with 4.
Eliana Dyer was top scorer for the Sailors with nine, while Mahala Vasquez led the Sailors rebounding with six followed by Dyer with five.
