Lady wrestlers bring home hardware from Sidney Meet

    The Lady Longhorn Wrestlers traveled to Sidney for a girls only tournament on Friday Jan. 5. Four Longhorns made the trip and all four came home with medals.
    Haley Rusher, (12-4), competed in the 145 pound weight class and took first place. Rusher pinned Kiersten Brush, (2-5), of Sterling in 1:43 in her first match.
    In her second match, Rusher pinned Zoleigh Reffalt (17-8) of Bayard in 2:47 for a first place finish.
    Iris Robles, (3-7), finished in second place in the 120 pound class. Robles won her first two matches by injury default.
    The first was over Jamie Biel, (8-7), of Ogallala at the 1:22 mark and the second was over Mireyah Maldonado, (7-10), of Gering in 0:55.
    In the finals, Robles ran into Saije Phelps, (26-1), of Sandhills Valley and lost by pin in 0:43 for second place.
    Brooke Schilke, (10-6), won her first two matches in the 155 pound class. Schilke pinned Jayden Mueller, (8-10), of Bridgeport in 1:34 and pinned Jaelyn Yetter, (4-14), of Mitchell in 2:20.
    Schilke lost by pinfall in the finals to Mariah Duran, (22-2), of Sandhills Valley to take second place.
    Rounding out the team and wrestling in the 115 pound class was Lizbet Mireles, (8-7).
    Mireles won her first match, pinning Kaitlyn Freiberg, (10-8), of Ogallala in 0:59. In her second match, Mireles was pinned by Jayden Cottam, (23-3), of Sidney in 2:30.
    In the consolation semi-finals, Mireles won a decision over Madyson Dehart-Harris, (5-8), of Alliance, 4-3. In the third place match, Mireles lost by pin to Morgan Amateis, (13-5), of Bridgeport in 1:33 to take fourth place.
