Golf season ends for CCS

No Chase County golfers placed in the top 10 at Monday’s C5 district golf meet at Kimball, ending the Longhorns’ season.
Gavin Wisnieski led CCS with a 13th place finish, five strokes behind the 10th place finisher.
Longhorn Head Coach Marissa McDaniel said Parker Terryberry scored his low on the season, 120, but other CCS golfers didn’t have their best days.
The team stayed positive throughout, she added.
CCS went to Kimball for its invite May 4 and went back Sunday this week so they could play a practice round.
Wet weather conditions made it tough to work on their skills.
“The goal Sunday was to keep the clubs dry enough to stay in your hands when you swing. We were thankful the weather on Monday was much nicer,” McDaniel said.
Few golfers were able to hit their averages Monday.
“Districts is a tough mental game and Kimball has a difficult, but beautiful course,” McDaniel said.
“Overall, it’s been a great year with a large team. I am proud of the success I’ve seen from each one and the growth throughout the year,” McDaniel said
With the team mostly composed of freshmen and sophomores, McDaniel said she is excited to see what they can do in the next two years.
Kearney Catholic, 213, won the tournament. Also qualifying for state was Amherst, 332, and Mitchell, 350.     The Longhorns’ final tune up before the district meet was the Bayard Invite May 9.
    Wisnieski placed third for CCS.
Also on May 9, the CCS JV team competed in Sutherland. No results were available.
