CCS Volleyball racks up two more wins in busy week

    The Chase County Longhorn Volleyball team has been on the court a lot this past week.
    On Tuesday Sept. 19 the Longhorns welcomed the Sidney Red Raiders to town. The Longhorns came up on the short end of the match against a good Sidney team with a record of (11-6).
    The Lady Longhorns got down in the first set as much as 5-12 before they clawed their way back into the lead at 18-17. Sidney bounced back when senior Karsyn Leeling served five straight points to put Sidney up 22-18.
    The Horns fought back into the set and got to 23-24 when a bump to the back corner just caught the stripe and gave Sidney the set win.
    The Longhorns couldn’t bounce back after that losing the next two sets 18-25 and 14-25.
    On Saturday the Lady Longhorns traveled to the Sutherland tournament where they finished with a fifth place finish.
    Head Coach Kristi McNair said the girls came out slow in the first match against eventual tournament winner Southwest (15-1) in their first match.
    The Lady Longhorns finished strong in both sets against Southwest but came up short 19-25 and 20-25.
    Next up were the (10-9) Hitchcock County Ladies. Coach McNair credited her team for coming back after the loss and playing well in both of the next matches.
    In the first set against Hitchcock County both teams were feeling each other out trading points until Olivia Spady had a four point serving string.
    The Longhorns never looked back and won the first set 25-19. The second set was a close game also aided by a seven point string in the middle of the game by Riley Rusher’s serving. The Longhorns won the set 25-19 again and took their third win of the season.
    In the final match of the day the Longhorns faced South Loop (7-9). The Lady Longhorns kept the momentum rolling from the second match and ran over South Loop.
    South Loop started the first set with three straight points but would not lead again in the game. Karlie Anderson finished off the set serving the last six points to take a 25-12 win
    It was more of the same in the second set with Chase County coming out on top 25-16 and securing the fifth place finish.
    The Longhorns welcomed the Gothenburg Swedes into town Tuesday Sept. 26. The Swedes bring a 20-1 record to town having only lost to undefeated Minden. Details will be in the next issue of the paper.
Next action
    The schedule stays busy for the Lady Longhorns traveling to the Scottsbluff Invitational on Sept. 29-30. Tuesday Oct. 3 they will travel to North Platte for a triangular with St. Pats and Sutherland.
    On Thursday Oct. 5 Perkins County will host the Longhorns for the last varsity match before the SPVA Tournament starting on the 14 of October.
