CCS volleyball drops opening match

The Chase County volleyball team got its first look at subdistrict foe Ogallala last Tuesday, falling at home in four sets.
The Longhorns got off to a good start in the match, which Head Coach April Lambert said was good to see.
CCS never trailed in the 25-19 first set win, opening up leads of 17-10 and 23-16.
The teams traded points early in set two before the Longhorns jumped out to a 16-10 behind the serving of Liz Reeves. Ogallala quickly erased the deficit and left CCS trailing 16-18. Chase County was never able to recover and lost the set 22-25.
Lambert said the Longhorns started to see their transition offense weaken as Ogallala’s ramped up.
“We weren’t able to convert points by attacking in transition like we will need to later down the road,” she added.
CCS fell behind 1-11 in the third game and lost 15-25.
Chase County didn’t let Ogallala pull away as quickly in the fourth set. CCS trailed by two, 9-11, before giving up five-straight points. The Longhorns worked themselves back to 15-18, but one last push by Ogallala finished the match, 16-25.
Bryn McNair led the Longhorns with 25 kills and 18 digs. Landree McNair and Reeves ended the night with double-dig assists, 17 and 12, respectively.

CCS traveled to McCook Tuesday for a triangular with the Bison and Minden.
Lambert said McCook (1-0)has a new coaching staff and will be much more organized this year and scrappy, while  Minden (5-0) has a great program with very talented players.
“Both matches will push us to our limits and be great points of growth,” she said.
Also coming up is the Lexington Tournament Saturday.
The Longhorns will travel to Yuma, Colorado next Tuesday.
