CCS girls win season’s first two games

The Chase County girls’ basketball team went two-for-two in its first games of the season, picking up wins over Cozad and McCook.
The Longhorns were dominant defensively in Thursday’s season opener against Cozad.
CCS held the Haymakers to an effective field goal percentage, which takes three pointers into account, of 19.4% shooting. On the offensive end of the court Chase County’s eFG was 55.7%.
Longhorn Head Coach Alex McNair said his team was shooting with confidence and defended well.
Joee Clevenger, Landree McNair and Bryn McNair knocked down three pointers in the first quarter, helping CCS outscore Cozad 20-6 over the game’s first eight minutes.
The Longhorn defense was stifling over the second and third quarters. Chase County only allowed one field goal over the 16-minute span.
    B. McNair stayed hot throughout the night, adding two 3s in each the second and third quarters, on her way to 29 points on the night.
    L. McNair also finished in double figures with 10 points.
Chase County’s transition game was hitting on all cylinders, outscoring Cozad 18-2.
Take down Bison
CCS carried its momentum into Friday night at McCook.
McNair said his team handled the Bison pressure and shot lights out.
Chase County came out hot right off the bat, scoring 18 points in the first quarter. CCS continued to put double-digit points on the board in each quarter on its way to an eFG of 62.2%.
The Longhorns had their best defensive showing in the second quarter when they didn’t allow a field goal and only gave up three free throws.
McNair was pleased with the diversity of the CCS offense, pointing out that nine Longhorns scored in the game.
    B. McNair led the way with 21 points. Liz Reeves chipped in nine points and Olivia Spady added eight. Spady and B. McNair each grabbed six rebounds.
The Longhorns overwhelmingly won the rebounding battle, 32-16, and points off turnovers, 27-11.
