Bronco wrestlers stay close to home

Four Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers made the short trip to Imperial Friday and Saturday for the Chase County Duals and Invite.
Trey McCrumb finished in sixth place at 170 lbs. after a 2-3 day.
Coach Danny Schluckebier said McCrumb lost to two extremely seasoned veterans and Trey made them work for the win.
“Trey showed he was serious about wrestling and took what he knows and used it on the mat. He should be happy about the day and is looking forward to the next meet after a few more days of hard practice,” Schluckebier said.
Konner McCrumb went 1-2 at 106 lbs.
“Konner got caught in a couple bad spots he couldn’t escape from but also wrestled well and should not feel bad about the day. He knows what he did wrong and is prepared to fix it before the next meet,” Schluckebier said.
Coleman Chism lost both his matches at 113 lbs., but Schluckebier said Chism came through it with a good attitude.
Justin Warembourg saw his first action of the season as he has finally recovered from an injury.
Schluckebier said Warembourg has the knowledge and experience to compete well, but struggled without any mat time so far this year.
“Coming from so much time off of being on the mat was a disadvantage. Justin worked hard and got beat, he knows what to plan for in practice,” Schluckebier said.
Up next
The Broncos will head to Bartley Friday where Southwest will be hosting the RPAC meet.
Schluckebier said it will be an important day for the whole team
“There will be conference competition there all ready to do what is necessary on the mat to win. We as a team look forward to working hard at practice and showing up ready to wrestle,” Schluckebier said.
On Jan. 26, the Broncos will head to the Medicine Valley Duals to take on the Raiders and Dundy County Stratton. The MV Invite will be the following day.
The season’s final invite will be at Southwest Feb. 3.
The D-4 district will be Feb. 10-11 at Sutherland.
