School will be busy Friday; district music here

Chase County Schools will be hosting the Nebraska Schools Activities Association District Music Contest Friday.
Other schools attending the NSAA contest at CCS for the District V western division include Hitchcock County, Arapahoe, McCook, Cambridge, Wauneta-Palisade, Dundy County Stratton, Southwest, Medicine Valley and Maywood.
“This is the District Music Contest for schools in the western part of the district,” said Agnes Strand, CCS Director of Bands.
 The instrumental and vocal contests will draw students from Classes A, B, C and D for solos, small groups and ensemble competitions, she added.
“With this music contest so close on the heels to the spring musical, absences due to track and golf, FFA, FBLA and FCCLA conferences, David Rushing,vocal director, decided to work on solos and small ensembles with the (vocal) students who were present each day,” she said.
The 9th St. Singers and the high school chorus will not be competing Friday.
Strand said the CCS concert band will start the day off performing at 8 a.m. in the Shorthorn gym, and Simply Jazz will perform at 12:46 p.m. with many solos and small ensembles between and after.
A boys sextet will perform in the band room at 9:48 a.m., the girls large vocal ensemble at 10:03 a.m. in the auditorium, and again, a myriad of solos and duets in between, she continued.
Rob Browning will accompany all the vocal entries as well as the five instrumental solos.
“We are super grateful to him,” Strand said.
Schedules for the contest performances will be available at the main doors as well as posted outside the various performance rooms.
“We ask that folks come a freckle early for the entries they want to see so we can keep the day moving by starting as early as available,” she said.
Friday is also a teacher in-service day, said Strand.
Classes for students will not be held, but staff will be in the building to assist with the contest.
