The Chase County chapter of TeamMates has chosen Jordan Ostermiller as March’s Mentor of the Month.
Ostermiller and her TeamMate, Lucy, have been meeting for eight years since she was in fifth grade.
She will be graduating from high school this spring.
Ostermiller said when they first started meeting once a week for lunch, they enjoyed playing games with Jenga being their favorite.
Now that Lucy is a senior, they spend most of their time talking.
“Actually, Lucy talks and I just listen,” Ostermiller joked.
“Lucy is very involved in many school activities, and I enjoy hearing about what’s going on in her life,” she said.
Ostermiller said she enjoys attending Lucy’s ball games. Because of that, Ostermiller’s young children have also developed a friendship with Lucy.
During the summers, Lucy instructs her children in swimming lessons, she continued.
Ostermiller started participating in the TeamMates Mentoring program to be more involved in the school and the community.
She is active in the First United Methodist Church and  is the director for the Kidzone program—a Wednesday after school program for preschool through sixth grade.
Ostermiller and her husband, TJ, farm and ranch south of Imperial where they are raising their three children with another child due in April.
She also devotes some of her time to 4-H and girls’ T-ball as a coach.
Ostermiller is excited for Lucy to graduate in May and looks forward to seeing what the future holds for her.
“I will be sad not to have the opportunity to meet with Lucy for lunch next year, but I’m confident our friendship will continue beyond TeamMates,” Ostermiller said.
“I look forward to having another TeamMate to mentor in the future,” she added.
